The Golden Treasure at Solomon’s Fortified City of Megiddo
At the top of what is called Samaria today, and along the route of the invading ancient kings of Egypt heading north along the Mediterranean coastline, the fortressed city of Megiddo stood as a major site of habitation and an important fortressed administrative center under the rule of King Solomon. Here in what has been described as the Iron Age walled fortress called Tell Megiddo overlooking the Jezreel Valley in Northern Israel there was discovered an earthen vessel attributed to the 12th century about 1100 BCE. This was purported to be just before the era of King David in Jerusalem.
Here on this ancient fortressed site, hidden within a large earthen vessel was a hoard of exquisite gold jewelry. The hoard was protected by three clay bowls; the large earthen vessel on the outside, a second clay bowl within which contained a third small clay vessel. As some reported, it was constructed like some Russian nesting doll.

When they opened the small third inner earthen vessel, it appeared to be packed with mud. This vessel was shipped first without any human contamination down to the Weizmann Institute of Archaeology to study its molecular structure. Within the contents there was discovered a collection of ancient jewelry whose prize piece was an exquisite “basket like golden earring” decorated with molded ibexes or in another report like an ostrich plus eight small golden animals with the appearance of wild goats. The archeologists state that this find is “without parallel” in archeological history.
Professor Israel Finkelstein, the co-director at the excavation at Tel Megiddo stated that the earthen vessel was initially discovered in 2010. Included in the excavation team was also TAU Professor Emeritus David Ussishkin and Associate Director Professor Eric Cline of George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Ancient Israelite Golden Jewelry and Beads from Tel Megiddo
As reported, they had to wait for it to be examined by molecular analysis of its contents and when that was completed, they washed out the dirt and to their astonishment they found a priceless golden collection of jewelry.
Together when opened the vessel, they discovered wrapped in a textile there was a priceless collection of gold jewelry plus over 1,100 semi-precious gold, silver, and semi-precious stone beads drilled out to form other articles of jewelry. It also appeared that this collection was discovered in a private dwelling or the home of an Israelite that resided on the northern side of the walled city of Megiddo.

When they opened the textile, pieces of golden jewelry tumbled out. This included a ring, a collection of golden earrings plus over a thousand beads of gold, silver and carnelian. According to the stratification of the layers within the “Tell”, this layer was dated to the Iron Age I that began in the early 10th century BCE. It was reckoned that at least part of the jewelry came from Egypt whose rule over Northern Israel ended in the 12th century BCE. Yet, depending on which archeologist or which dating method is used, the dating can be disputed and the ownership and province of the collection lends one to doubt the “official report” that this hoard of gold was of Canaanite rather than Israelite origin.
The Exquisite Golden Basket Israelite Earring
One of the earrings genuinely deserves to be called unique. It is shaped like a basket, inside of which were an ostrich and eight tiny animal figures, possibly goats. There have not been any golden hoards, either in Israel or anywhere within the entire Mediterranean region this golden hoard.

It was the archeologists’ professional opinions that the golden jewelry designs had came from what was believed at the dominating Egyptian culture. Again, Megiddo, according to traditional archaeology was a Canaanite city-state that was under Egyptian rule at that time about 1130 BCE. The Egyptian populations withdrew later from this region and the city of Megiddo was destroyed.
Megiddo is remembered most as the prophetic site at the “end of the age” where the last battle of the forces of evil will seek to take control of Jerusalem against the divine forces of good. The site was called in Hebrew, Har Megiddo (Mount Megiddo) hence the Battle of Armageddon. This battle was seen in vision and documented in the Book of Revelation by the Apostle John, the Deputy Sagan (Vice President) of the Orthodox Jewish Sanhedrin of the “Nazarenes”.
Though archeologists reputedly date this site as over 8,000 years old, in over 35 centuries from Neolithic Israel to King Solomon’s Era, sticking to biblical chronology, genealogies including the Jewish Seder Olam Rabbah, we have to again dispute the traditional chronologies. As we shall soon see, as soon as the Hebrews arrived in the land of Israel, the central regions, including the royal Canaanite city of Megiddo were overthrown and came under Hebrew-Israelite control.
The Golden Signet Ring of a Hebrew-Israelite
Yet, we understand full well the strategic position of this city was for it became a noted military frontier fortress overlooking the Via Maris during the reigns of Kings David and Solomon as it overlooked one of the main trading land routes between Egypt, Syria and Mesopotamia.
We must comprehend that the dating chronologies by most secular and some Jewish archeologists are not biblically oriented. Rather they use Egyptian chronologies with all their interim gaps and merging and mixing of Egyptian dynasties to suggest that the United Monarchy of Kings David and Solomon started in the Early Iron Age I.
Yet, Destination Yisra’el suggests that may not be necessarily so; for the era of the Middle to Late Bronze Era culturally appears to be more like the apex of Hebrew-Israeli national existence. This is the difference between the archeological dating chronologies called the Minimalist and the Maximalist Chronologies. We also have to comprehend that even in the days of King David, some neighboring countries were like Third World Countries, and others were highly skilled and technologically advance First World Countries. It suggests that different cultures matured at different times and they, according to their national interest purposely moved from Bronze Age to Iron Age at different time sequences predominately for military reasons.

With Egypt virtually protected by geography and distance from many of her enemies, Pharaonic Egypt matured later and continued to use Bronze military weapons later, while the Philistines, as new immigrants brought with them early the Iron Age culture and its weapons. We see this in the Philistines battles against the tribal Israelites during the rule of Eli the Judge when the Ark of the Covenant was captured by the Philistines, and later when King Saul and Crown Prince Jonathan were both killed in battle against the Philistines.
It took King David, once a mercenary leader in alliance with the Philistines, who adopted the Iron Age military technology, returned and allied himself with the rest of the Israelite tribal leaders after the death of King Saul. Later he went on to rule the whole region from Egypt to the Euphrates, yet his kingdom remained culturally in the gilded Golden Age of the Middle to Late Bronze Age.
Strong traditions substantiated that with the immense treasures of gold that King David accumulated for the Temple of G-d, he prepared with G-d’s architectural plans and his son, Solomon, constructed the United Kingdom of Kings David and Solomon. It became one of the richest imperial kingdoms in human history.
It was not until 1992 when Rabbi Rabbi Rachnael Steinberg with his student Rabbi Mendel Tropper discovered in Amsterdam, Holland the long lost writings called the “Emeq HaMelekh”, meaning the Valley of the Kings. From this document, we begin to comprehend the immensity of the gold and precious gems that were used Solomon’s Temple.
This document had been written by Rabbi Naftali Hertz Ben Ya’acov Elchanon in the year 1648 in Amsterdam and the sources that Rabbi Hertz cited was called the Massakhet Keilim, a Tosefta (addition) to the Talmud, which is not found in any modern Talmud today.
As accounted by the discoverer of the Emeq HaMelekh, Rabbi Steinberg quoting the Talmud Huriot 12A accounts where the Prophet Jeremiah, knowing that the destruction of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem was imminent, organized a heroic rescue operation. He commanded King Josiah to prepare the hiding places for the Ark of the Covenant, the bottle of Anointing Oil, Aaron’s Staff of Almond wood, and the “Chest” sent by the Pelishtim (Philistines) to Israel as a “gift to the G-d of Israel.”
Then with our newer and continuous research and knowledge, we consider the history of the Lost Ten Tribes of the House of Israel. The Lost Ten Tribes were exiled from the land in Shomron (Samaria) today, and sent to the lands in Khurasan. From there they migrated to the lands of their last habitation, the Northern Kingdoms of Europe.

Suddenly we realize that the glorious golden implements that were created by the Celtic and Cymrics in the La Tene Culture of Northern Israel, plus the fabulous horse costumes of the Royal Israelite Scythians, we now realize that “Gold” is indelibly a part not only of the Jewish Hebrew culture, but also the Lost Israelite Hebrew culture down through the ages.
Megiddo was first recorded in history on the temple walls of the Egyptian Pharaoh Thutmose III and traditionally dated to 1479 BCE. Yet, in strict chronological dating by the genealogies of the TaNaKh, the this date is closer to the Exodus (about 1450 BCE) of the Hebrew Israelites (Children of Israel) when Egypt was in a catastrophic collapse after the Israelites left and G-d’s Judgment destroyed their dynastic culture. Even so, the traditionalist archeologists try to convince us that the Exodus and the Hebrew invasion into the Promised Land was closer to 1200 BCE and more like a migratory assimilation rather than invasion as portrayed in Joshua’s history of the Hebrew-Israelites.
The first mention of Megiddo in the TaNaKh, the Biblical Old Testament is in Joshua 12:21 when the city was inhabited by the Canaanites. Yet, according to the biblical texts in Joshua 12, Joshua testified that the Children of Israel destroyed 31 local Canaanite kings and their lands in which they ruled came under the dominion of the Children of Israel:
Joshua 12:1 - “These are the kings of the land whom the Children of Israel smote and whose lands they inherited on the other side of the Jordan, towards the rising sun, from the River Arnon to Mount Hermon and the entire plains to the east:…Moses, servant of HaShem, and the Children of Israel defeated them; and Moses, servant of Hashem, gave it as an inheritance to the Reubenites and to the Gadites and to half the tribe of Manasseh.
These are the kings of the land whom Joshua and the Children of Israel smote on the western side of the Jordan, from the plain of Gad in the Lebanon valley to the split mountain that ascends to Seir; Joshua gave it as an inheritance to the tribes of Israel according to their divisions, in the mountain and in the lowland, in the plain and in the land of waterfalls, and in the wilderness and in the South…”
And then the biblical text lists out all 31 kings of Canaan that were wiped out of the land of which the 26th king was the “king of Megiddo”. (Joshua 12:21) What then does this suggests? The Children of Israel took complete possession of Southern Lebanon, Mount Hermon, the region of Galilee, the Golan Heights all the way into Syria proper, completely throughout the biblical heartland of Israel; Shomron (Samaria), and Judea including Jericho, Beth-el, Jerusalem, and Hebron.
Megiddo is first mentioned in the Bible in Joshua 12:21. At the time the city was inhabited by Canaanites. It is the assumption that the control of the city of Megiddo was lost to the Israelites, but that is also assuming because we are using Egyptian chronology instead of biblical chronology as our guiding post of history, and may not be true! Can we not consider that the G-d of Israel has left the Jews and Israelites more accurate genealogies and tribal records than the Egyptians? This is like teaching the history of the Old Testament without using the rabbinic interpretations of the Torah, or abandoning the Torah completely.
With a more biblical comprehension of ancient history, and a more respectful appreciation of rabbinic interpretations of past Jewish Israelite history, we might be justified to challenge recent headlines that cries out; “Megiddo dig unearths cache of buried Canaanite treasure” and change them to say, “Tell Megiddo reveals hoard of Jewish-Israelite Gold that is over 3,500 years old”. Would this not affirm the biblical testimony and evidence that the Hebrew-Israelites conquered the land in the days of Joshua and the Judges of Israel and the evidence there are not Canaanite but Hebrew-Israelites?
The “Golden Bell” discovered in the City of David (Ir Dovid) - Photo credit: Vladimir Neichin
Let us look at the historical evidence of the Hebrew-Israelites as the Jews of the House of Judah and the Israelites of the House of Israel when, during their United Monarchy of Kings David and Solomon they were of one nation and excelled beyond all other nations? Was it not recently that a “Golden Bell” was discovered in the City of David (Ir Dovid)? Did it not give us great joy of seeing the reality of such evidence concerning the existence of the Temple of HaShem in Jerusalem?
Yet what about the evidence of the largest accumulation of gold and precious gemstones that were used to build the most renowned temple of all ages, the Holy Temple of Solomon as the House of HaShem. This evidence can be read in the following BibleSearchers Reflection series that includes the article titled, “Gold in the Temple of Solomon, the Garden of Eden, the Margolit, Almugim, Golden Tables and Industrial Gemstones.” As the Emeq HaMelekh testifies in the Fifth Mishnah:
Fifth Mishnah of the Emeq HaMelekh – “There were 77 tables of gold, and gold [hangings] from the walls of the Garden of Eden that was revealed to Shlomo. Their radiance was like the brilliance of the sun and the moon that shine above the world. And all the silver and gold that ever existed in the world, from the six days of creation until the day that Zidkiyahu became king, did not equal the value of the gold that was overlaid on the Temple from within and from without.
There is no end, no measure, no set amount, and no weighing of the gold that overlaid the Temple and the face of the Temple. All this, plus another 7,000 talents of gold, were brought and concealed in the "Segel Habar" (?) with precious stones with which the Temple was built, besides 3 rows of priceless stones and one row of Almogim (coral?) trees. [Of] the three rows of priceless stones, the length of each row was 7 cubits, and width 5 cubits, [of the cubits] established by David. The length of one Margalit (pearl? gem? building stone?) was 10 cubits. David prepared all of these for the Great House (Temple), for Shlomo, his son.”
If you want to see the evidence of the ancient Hebrews (Jews and Israelites) in reference to their ability to engrave, facet and drill holes in gemstones, and how they perfected the use of diamond tipped drills in the preparation of the Temple of Solomon, we appeal to the mini-article titled, “Diamonds in the Ancient World”. We suddenly begin to realize that technology of diamond faceting, engraving, and drilling into semi-precious stones such as beads was first given to Kings David and Solomon and used in the building of the Temple of Solomon.
Then we have the ancient evidence of the first of the technology in the history of creating gemstones by the use of micro-drilling by using diamond tipped drills. This evidence was discovered as early as the 6th century BCE document titled the "Ratnapariksa" by Buddha Bhatta. It depicted the value of 6th-century BCE gems and the legendary powers attributed to these gemstones. As then, so it is today, the diamond octahedron was a gem that was highly valued as described:
Ratnapariksa - “He who, having pure body always carries a diamond with sharp points, without blemish, free from all faults; that one, as long as he lives, knows each day will bear some things: happiness, prosperity, children, riches, grain, cows and meat.
The diamond with the most prized value flashed a dispersion of light into a rainbow of colors.
Ratnapariksa - "Even if it has blunt points, if it has a speck, a crack, the diamond that has the reflection of the rainbow procures wealth, grain and sons. The king who carries, so it is said, a beautiful diamond with glittering flashes has a force that triumphs over all other powers and becomes master of all neighboring lands."
Where did they get such amazing knowledge 2,600 years ago? Then suddenly we realize that the Lost Ten Tribes of the House of Israel who were expelled from the Land of Israel in Samaria because of their idolatry started the religious of Buddhism in the 6th century. It was “The Buddha” who was called the “Great Hermit” whose real name was “Saca-Mundi”. Yet when we search for his real identity, we find that he was a “Sacae-Suni” or a “son of Isaac” of the Lost Ten Tribes of the House of Israel.
So we ask, where is the literary testimony of the Canaanites, Palestinians, or even the Arabs that show evidence of their cultural life as residents in Tell Megiddo? Where is the archeological evidence at Tell Megiddo or anywhere across the Levant towards the Land of Canaan that shows the Canaanites skills in making golden earrings or drilling holes in metallic gold and silver or even semi-precious gem beads?

Why not Professor Israel Finkelstein, at Tel Aviv University, be proud of your golden heritage and relook at the evidence within the chronologies of the Hebrew TaNaKh? Why not reconsider that the golden horde in which you have discovered comes from your own ancestral heritage, not the Canaanites?
Yet, don’t forget your own brothers of the House of Israel who as the Celtics, the Cymrics, the Scythian Royal Israelites plus the Anglo-Saxons, the Vikings of the Norsemen, the Swedes and the Danes, for they all carry rich tribal heritages of exquisite golden jewelry that were used for dress and ornamentation. Let’s not forget about the Germanic Tribes Ostrogoths, Visigoths and the Vandals. Did not the Germanic Israelites Visigoths topple the City of Rome, but what did they take; only the Gold of Rome stolen from the Treasury of King Solomon. Did not the Germanic Israelite Vandals again conquer the City of Rome, but what did they take; only the Golden Menorah of King Herod plus the rest of Solomon’s Treasures not hidden by the Prophet Jeremiah and the five worthy priestly commandos that hid the Treasures of Solomon’s Temple to wait for the coming Messiah, David, son of David.
Lest we forget, what about the collective tribal memories that are imbedded in our genes when our Israelite tribal forefathers worshipped in the Golden Temple of King Solomon and worshipped in awe before the majesty of G-d in an era of many miracles. At that time, when the king entered into the house of the L-rd, walls of golden shields traced the pathway from the royal house to the House of G-d? Someday, this imagery will be restored and your destiny as a Lost Sheep of the House of Israel will be fulfilled.
