The Blood Bath as Syria’s Assad assaults his own People
The Syrian people’s revolt against the repressive regime of President Bashar Assad was already four months only when as Ramadan began on August 1, 2011, it erupted into full blown warfare. In and area over 20,000 square kilometer region, about the size of Israel, the Syrian military targeted over 3.5 million Syrians live in Hama, Deir al-Zour, Homs, Idlib and Ar-Raqqah. Overall on the first two days there were over 130 dead and 1,000 injured in Hama and 30 dead and 100 injured in Deir al-Zour. Then Assad ordered his tank divisions to widen their war against their own people.
The Syrian 4th and 15th army division were fighting their way into the barricaded centers of the southern and western districts as the military sources of DEBKAfiles estimated that it would take at least ten days to conquer the key city of million people called Hama.
By August 4, the Orontes River in Hama was flowing with blood as ghastly images of dead bodies with dismembered limbs were floating down the river. As DEBKAfiles reported:
DEBKAfiles – “Contrary to official claims that they belonged to Syrian soldiers torn to pieces by protesters, debkafile reports they (dead bodies) are the victims of Syrian tank fire and ZU-23 automatic anti-aircraft artillery trained on residential buildings and streets in the last 48 hours as the dead pile up in the streets.
Citizens cowering in their homes are throwing the dead out of windows and off roofs into the river. They are reliving the terrors of the massacre President Bashar Assad's father inflicted on this city of half-a-million in 1982 which left 30,000 dead.
Syrian armored forces shooting at random are now running into heavy resistance: Awaiting them are anti-tank traps and fortified barriers manned by protesters armed with heavy machine guns.”
Yet, the patriot resistance appeared to be overcoming the Syrian armored divisions. Recently one division ordered to be sent from its base in Qatana southwest towards Damascus was noted to be disintegrating as its officers and soldiers deserted taking and took with them the armored vehicles and weapons.
By August 4, the commander of the Syrian military began a full scale assault, rounding up any “suspected protestors” for execution. It was the decision of Gen. Mohammad Deeb Zeitoun, who was the head of the Syrian Political Security Department and Gen. Abdul-Fattah Qedssiyeh, the head of the Military Intelligence Department to order that hundreds of protestors were to be “executed by firing squad in the Nasser Square” without any summary trial or investigation.

For the first time, Russian protectorate of Syria began to collapse. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev broke the big international power taboo, even amongst European and American governments by “pointing the finger at Bashar Assad” and placing the blame upon the President himself for the brutality of the military against the Syrian opposition resistance. Medvedev warned the Assad faced a “sad fate" if he refused to introduce democratic reforms and enter into a peaceful dialogue with the opposition movement against the Assad government. As DEBKAfiles mused:
DEBKAfiles – “These remarks sounded as though they came from a different planet from the ferocious violence raging for the last three days against the populations of Hama in the north and Deir el-Zour in the east. In today's Syria, the prospects of the regime halting the violence and entering into "peaceful dialogue" are completely unreal.
Medvedev went on to say: "Regrettably, large numbers of people are dying there. That causes us grave concern." And, more to the point, "We are watching how the situation is developing. It's changing and our approach is changing as well."
Yet the Syrian military forces were facing a growing and more powerful resistance movement. As the Syrian forces encounter, they discovered that they were facing warriors that had established their own militia or military counter forces. They were now manned by army deserters including Syrian officers, who were now facing their own Syrian military. They had erected anti-tank barriers and apparently had an abundance of arms that could last for a unspecified amount of time.
As the eve of Ramadan approached, President Assad was planning a huge public rally in Aleppo with a large repertoire of famous Syrian performing artist in a concert to give international attention to a national show of peace. It was cancelled.
Assad also appealed to the 30 leading Islamic clerics to stop all nightly processions from the mosques after the Taraweeh prayer that marked the end of each day of fasting in the bid to gain a 30-day period of peace from any violent clashes. Each of the senior clerics were asked to issue a religious edict called a fatwa that would permit the faithful Muslim from attending the mosque for Taraweeh. It would allow them to recite their prayers at home during the excessive heat of the summer.
Twenty nine of the thirty clerics declined to issue any such edict. Sheikh Al Bouti, Syria's foremost scholar, a world Muslim eminence and head of the Theology Department in the faculty of Islamic Law at Damascus University, agreed to issue the dispensation which was distributed all over Syria. A huge Muslim backlash occurred that provoked large burnings of Sheikh Al Bouti’s books on Islamic law across the country.
It was reported that America President Barack Obama was “appalled by the Syrian’s government’s use of violence and brutality against it own people. According to one American official in the American embassy in Damascus, he claimed that the fighting in the city of Hama was “full-on warfare” and the “last act of utter desperation.”
This comment can only be balanced against the statement by JJ Harder, the press attaché at the American embassy to BBC World Service:
JJ Harder – “There is one big armed gang in Syria, and it's named the Syrian government. I think we can safely say it's full-on warfare by the Syrian government on its own people."
The world opposition to President Assad was an anemic failure, The UN Security Council meeting was called by Germany yet failed to make any substantial threat against Syria’s President except the routine proclamations against killing civilian and human rights abused. Yet, it failed to agree on any sanctions or penalties.
Even the American Congress failed to quickly address the Syrian crisis after the Senate approved the Bill to raise the national debt ceiling. US Ambassador Robert Ford was sent to brief the U.S. Senators on the Syrian war. There was one problem, only one senator stayed behind as the rest were eager to leave Washington as soon as possible.
It was also during these hours that all international attention was riveted upon the Egyptian trial against the deposed former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak that opened the day prior. Yet as the world was shocked to see the Egyptian president wheeled into the courtroom on a stretcher and locked up in a large cage like an animal, the military forces of Assad were mowing down rebels in Hama with anti-aircraft guns from Syrian tanks while rebel forces were countering the fire with anti-tank weapons from tank barricades.
The Borders between Turkey and Syria and the Orontes River
Buildings in the city in which rebels were suspected of hiding behind windows or roofs were indiscriminately flattened. All city services were cut off, including water, electricity while the dead citizens were believed to be in the hundreds. Only by cellular phones by dissidents were any reports available to the outside world.
If the recent belligerence of the Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan against Israel had any demerits in the courts of heaven, the Obama White House, who has been carefully grooming a relationship with the Turkish Prime Minister, ordered that Turkish units be sent into Northern Syria as the Syrian military desertions were heading to the Turkish borders for asylum.
Yet, the finger of the hand of G-d disrupted even these plans as a political crisis erupted on July 28 when the entire Turkish high military command that included the Chief of Staff resigned as one body. Erdogan had no military command to order much less lead any military forces to the Turkish-Syrian border to establish a military buffer zone to ease the siege on Hama.
It is interesting to note that Hama is a Muslim Brotherhood stronghold. The next largest city of resistors, Deir-el-Zour, a city of a half a million, is an urban oil center controlled by the 2.1 million members of the various nomadic Bedouin tribes, allied with the Sunni Islamic faith of many various sects. These include the Baqqara tribal federation of 1.2 million, the Fadan Walad and the Fadan Kharsa on the Euphrates Valley, plus the al Shammar Karsah of Deir al Zour and the surrounding area.
Not as fortified as Hama, the city of Deir-el-Zour is no match to Assad’s military. When the military armor arrives the Bedouin tribesmen will flee and hide in the dense papyrus groves along the Euphrates River and wadis and in the Iraqi region of al Anbar province. No doubt a full scale guerrilla war will soon be attacking the Assad’s Syrian military.
As he prepared for the Deir el-Zour offensive, Assad quickly captured the Baqqara tribal chief Sheikh Nawaf al-Bashir. He was to be held as hostage against any tribal Bedouin uprising. According to DEBKAfiles, the “Syrian military intelligence will find Sheikh Nawaf al-Bashir a tough nut to crack, even for a heavy bribe.
The price for Syria’s Assad will now be that the Syrian Iraqi border will be “cornered” by the road networks under the Sunni tribes that surround the two eastern towns. With Syria in alliance with Shi’ite Iran, her few oil fields and pipelines that produce and transport $8-10 million that is sustaining the Syrian war will now come under attack and sabotage by the Sunni tribes.
Yet, the stage is being prepared by the G-d of Israel to eventually pull Assad’s Syria into the political and spiritual area of Greater Israel. This is not just propaganda for a larger Zionist State but has been the bulwark of the message of the prophets of Israel of a future alliance between Syria, Egypt and Israel.
Isaiah 17:1-3 – “A prophecy concerning Damascus: Behold, Damascus will be negated from being a city, and it will be a heap of rubble. Deserted will be the cities of Aroer; they will be for flocks that will lie down with none to disturb them. The stronghold will cease from Ephraim, and monarchy from Aram; they will be like the glory of the Children of Israel – the word of Hashem, Master of Legions.”
Isaiah 19:23 – “On that day there will be a road from Egypt to Assyria; Assyrian will come into Egypt and Egyptian into Assyria, and Egypt will serve Hashem with Assyria. On that day Israel will be the third party with Egypt and with Assyria, a blessing in the midst of the land, for Hashem, Master of Legions will bless them saying, ‘Blessed is My people, Egypt; and the work of My hands, Assyria; and My heritage, Israel.’”
