The Messianic appeal amongst all walks of Jewish lives, Hasidic, Chassid, and even secular Jews, has been affected and even shaken the core of Orthodox Judaism. Implicit in Rev Artzi’s spiritual messages laced with apocalypse, catastrophes and redemption has led some to begin to call him “eccentric” and a “false prophet”.
In early April 2011, the most prominent critic of Rabbi Nir Ben Artzi has become Chief Sephardic Rabbi Shlomo Amar. Surprisingly Rabbi Artzi has given predictions of our future as gloom, doom, and redemption. To many in the Lost Tribes of the House of Israel, Rabbi Artzi’s vision of the future appears mild to the Apocalypse of Revelation, considered by many to be a prophetic vignette most influenced by the Essenes, or the fourth philosophy of Judaism in the 1st century CE Temple Period era. At least Rabbi Artzi has been willing to come forth and state with clarity to the Jewish people, “The Land of Israel is the only safe place for a Jew in the future”
This is a warning that needs to be said, for prophetic voices made similar warnings after World War I; for the German and East European Jews to leave Europe (the Jewish people’s modern day Babylon and Persia). Those that listened, acted and returned to Israel were saved. Most of those Jews not willing to leave early were caught and incarcerated in the concentration camps of Eastern Europe. Their fate in the concentration camps within the gas chambers is only known about in the archives left by the Nazi Germans in Europe.
Chief Sephardic Rabbi Shlomo Amar
Kikar, the radio of preference for the Orthodox Jew in Israel, recently had an audio interview on Radi Kol Chai with Rav Sholomo Amar, the Chief Sephardic Rabbi of Israel. Together they discussed the local issues about rabbis generically making futuristic predictions while having special gifts while “claiming to receive messages from god. This issue oriented discussion can be heard here. So “Life in Israel” summarizing this in an article titled, “Rav Shlomo Amar Against The Nir Ben Artzi Phenomenon” wrote the following in a general context while not specifying any certain person:
Life in Israel – “Rav Amar said that such people are false prophets in every sense of the word… and many of them are themselves very distant from the Torah and have no yirat shamayim (fear of heaven)... There have always been false prophets, even in the days of the neviim (prophets), and they were cheats who presented themselves as prophets...there are some in our days who claim to know more than the greatest neviim (prophets), yet the lion’s portion of them falls in the most serious of sins.
It begins with stealing money from people, and leads to failings of very serious temptations and temptation of honor. Every person who is concerned for himself should keep his distance from these people. He has no kedusha (sanctity), no tahara (cleanliness or purification), and it is the use of deception...”
Rabbi Amar denies that there is any such thing as having special powers. As he stated, “If a person says he can walk to the moon, it is impossible and you don't need to go check it.” When Rabbi Amar was queried about the predictions of Rav Nir Ben-Artzi specifically, he stated that “anyone who checks will see that the various predictions were only said after the events happened.”
The interview was soon carried to Rav Nir Ben-Artzi, who responded;
Rav Nir Ben Artzi – “I am not looking to fight with anybody, and I am not doing anything bad to anybody. All I want to do is to help the people of Israel. I am in favor of unity of all of Israel and I have nothing bad against anybody. "I was given a gift from heaven only to use for good things. B"H I have zchut avot (merit of the Patriarchs) that comes from the chain of my ancestors".
To even begin to predict how this discussion amongst the rabbis is going to be concluded is to fail to understand the mysteries of the Divine One of Israel as He continues to surprise us. He is today rooting out all divisions within Judaism, and gradually wooing His people to “Focus on Me, the G-d of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
The Messiah will come, for a day will come in which all rational or religious answers will not solve the rising evil that is darkening the borders of Israel. There will be only one answer, “Trust in HaShem, the G-d of Israel!”
