The Staff of Life Disappearing in Global Catastrophes
Revelation 6:5-8 – “When he broke the third seal, I heard the third living being say, “Go!” I looked and there in front of me a black horse, and its rider held in his hand a pair of scales. Then I heard what sounded like a voice from among the four living beings say, “Two pounds of wheat for a day’s wages! Six pounds of barley for the same price! But don’t damage the oil or the wine!”
When he broke the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living being, saying, “Go!” I looked, and there in front of me was a pallid, sickly – looking horse. Its rider’s name was Death, and Sh’ol followed behind him. They were given authority to kill one-quarter of the world by war, by famine, by plagues and with the wild animal of the earth.”

The year of 2010 was a landmark year for food inflation as world food prices returned to their inflation peak levels that occurred back during the 2008 food crisis. In those days, riots all around the world were occurring as price inflation reached epidemic proportions and caused food export bans in many afflicted countries. In the second six month sector of 2010, the price of world food prices rose 32 percent toppling 2008’s record price increase. These food price increases were reported by Bloomberg’s Business Week to be caused in part by:
-
Record temperatures that broke a 117 year record in Russia plus records in Belarus, Poland and Ukraine in Eastern Europe, Kazakhstan and Mongolia in Eurasia, Northern Africa, Taiwan, Japan, China, South Korea and Indochina in the Far East, plus the United States and Canada.
-
Worse droughts for Russia in over 100 years
-
Floods inundating and submerging Pakistan, floods like a tsunami in Eastern Australia, wheat harvest down 15% in Canada with floods in the prairies of Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, plus Europe and America.
-
Severe flooding in Eastern Australia in Queensland Region, as the worse in 27 years.
-
Worse drought in China with the highest temperature and half the average precipitation since record keeping began in the early 1950s.
-
Unlimited food demands by China’s more affluent population with record national demands for sugar and soybeans.
-
The hottest pre-monsoon season in 110 years, heralded the wettest monsoon rain season in India, which accounted for 80% of the annual rainfall in India. It provided 25% of India’s GDP while employing 70% of the nation’s population for growing their crops of rice, cotton, oilseeds, and course whole grains.Record food crops occurred in Central Africa while 20 African nations were facing famine.
Yet the global leaders of the world were gravely concerned as French President Nicolas Sarkozy, now head of both the G-8 group of developed nations and the G-20 group of developing nations made an urgent trip to Washington D.C. for private consultations with US President Barack Obama concerning food inflation and the anticipation of food riots. Unprecedented disasters all around the world were threatening every continent upon this globe with global food price inflation, record collapse of growing food stocks, which were threatening the stability of the international nations of the world that could precipitate a global world war. Haunting in their collective memory was the 2004 Secret Pentagon Report that gravely reported;
Food Riots will replace Religion and Race Riots as Famine Sweeps the World
- Future wars will be fought over the issue of survival rather than religion, ideology or national honor.
- Between 2010 and 2020 Europe will be hardest hit by climatic change with an average annual temperature drop of 6F. Climate in Britain will become colder and drier as weather patterns on the British Isles will begin to resemble Siberia.
- Deaths from war and famine will run into the millions of people until our planet's population will be reduced by such an extent that the Earth can cope.
- Riots and internal conflict will tear apart the Nations of India, South Africa and Indonesia.
- Access to water becomes a major battleground. The Nile, Danube and Amazon were all mentioned as being high risk.
- Rich areas like the US and Europe would become 'virtual fortresses' to prevent millions of migrants from entering after being forced from lands drowned by sea-level rise or no longer able to grow crops. Waves of boatpeople pose significant problems.
- By 2010 the US and Europe would experience a third more days with peak temperatures above 90F. Climatic changes in the weather would become a global 'economic nuisance' as storms, droughts and hot spells created havoc for farmers and growing seasons.
- Europe would be facing huge internal struggles as it coped with massive numbers of migrants washing up on its shores. Immigrants from Scandinavia would be seeking warmer climates to the south. Southern Europe would be beleaguered by refugees from hard-hit countries in Africa.
- Mega-droughts will be affecting the world's major breadbaskets, including America's Midwest, Australia, Ukraine in Eastern Europe and Egypt.
- China's huge population and their food demands would make this region particularly vulnerable.
- Bangladesh would become nearly uninhabitable because of a rising sea level, which contaminated the inland water supplies.
These were amazingly becoming prophetic realities as food riots were erupting in the Northern Africa nations of Algeria with 20-30% food price increases when Tunisia nearby was under police curfew as over 50 people were reported dead. Tunisia’s military rushed massive troops into the capital of Tunis instituting a national curfew as they tried to stem the increasing violence. The United Nations warned on January 7, 2010 that millions of people, predominately in third world countries were at risk as global food prices were rising higher than any other year since 1990 when food price index was instituted for meat, dairy, cereals, oil, and sugar.
While the world prices were skyrocketing in some countries, the global stocks for wheat, corn, and soybeans were declining as:
- Global wheat stocks fell 11% from 196.7 million tons (2009) to 175.2 million tons (2010)
- Global corn stocks fell 2% from estimates a month earlier
- Global soybean inventories fell 1.6% from 60,4 million tons in 2009 to 58.78 million tons in 2010.
All these statistics prompted Robert Zoellick, the President of the World Bank to warn that rising food prices were “a threat to global growth and social stability”, when for the first time since 2008, the number of malnourished people topped one billion, one-sixth of the world population after remaining stable for two decades. According to the World Bank President, 2008 came on the heels of two years of bad harvests, commodity prices skyrocketed, yet in the last three years there were reported a bumper crops, a report disputed eloquently by Market Skeptic’s Eric DeCarbonnel in “2009 Food Crisis for Dummies” and again in “2010 Food Crisis for Dummies”, as being government reporting fraud.
Today, according to the World Bank President Robert Zoellick, India’s and China’s burgeoning populations are now putting extraordinary pressure of providing food not by supply but now by demand as progressively affluent populations are now eating more meat than grains. In the face of increasing weather catastrophes like floods, earthquakes, famines, plus volcanoes, and tsunamis could also spell doom. This is the concern of Lester Brown, the president of the Washington based Earth Policy Institute, who was formerly a champion enthusiast for the Green Revolution, but has now turned to a “Prophet of Doom” when he wrote:
Lester Brown – “So if it is all so precarious at times of bumper harvests, what will happen if – or rather, when – we get a really bad one? The reality is that the world is only one poor harvest away from chaos. We are so close to the edge that politically destabilizing food prices could come at any time."
Imagine, if last year's Moscow heat wave – which sent average temperatures 14F above normal, and contributed to this year's smaller harvest – next hit Chicago and the Midwestern bread basket. The US harvest could slump by 40 per cent, sending prices "off the chart" and cause "the global economy to start to unravel". As the climate changes, such extremes are likely to be more common.”

Habakkuk (Havkuk) 3:6 – “G-d’s brightness is like the sun, rays come forth from His hand – that is where His power is concealed. Before Him goes pestilence, and close behind, the plague. When He stands up, the earth shakes when He looks, the Nations tremble, the eternal mountains are smashed to pieces, the ancient hills sink down; the ancient paths are His."
As Sorcha Faal reported on January 13, 2010;
Sorcha Faal – “Important to note about how dire the Global food situation has become is to understand the disasters that have befallen our World’s top wheat growing Nations this past year, and who in descending order are: China, India, United States, Russia, France, Canada, Germany, Ukraine, Australia and Pakistan.
From China’s disaster: 2010 China drought and dust storms were a series of severe droughts during the spring of 2010 that affected Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Sichuan, Shanxi, Henan, Shaanxi, Chongqing, Hebei and Gansu in the People's Republic of China as well as parts of Southeast Asia including Vietnam and Thailand, and dust storms in March and April that affected much of East Asia. The drought has been referred to as the worst in a century in southwestern China.
From India’s disaster: A record heat wave and growing water crisis in India are forcing politicians to consider implementing user fees and other measures to conserve water. Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday instructed ministers and officials to prepare a strategic plan to face an impending food crisis as there were signs that the World is about to confront a food shortage by April, 2011.
From Pakistan’s disaster: Floods have submerged 17 million acres of Pakistan's most fertile crop land, have killed 200,000 herd of livestock and have washed away massive amounts of grain and left farmers unable to meet the fall deadline for planting new seeds, which implies a massive loss of food production in 2011, and potential long term food shortages.
From Russia’s disaster: (10% of total World’s output, 20% for export) they were hit by the highest recorded temperatures Russia has seen in 130 years of recordkeeping; the most widespread drought in more than three decades; and massive wildfires that have stretched across seven regions, including Moscow.
From France’s disaster: The French government lowered their wheat crop forecast by 2.7% over last year due to drought and cold weather.
From Canada’s disaster: Record setting drought has affected their main grain producing provinces in the Western part of their Nation.
From Ukraine’s disaster: (the World's top producer of barley and sixth biggest of wheat) hit as hard as Russia by fire and drought to the point they have halted all their exports of grains in 2011.
From Australia’s disaster: Fears of a Global wheat shortage have risen after the Queensland area of Australia was hit by calamitous flooding. Andrew Fraser, Queensland's State Treasurer, described the floods as a “disaster of biblical proportions”. Water is covering land the size of France and Germany. It is expected to reach over 30 feet deep in some areas in coming days.
Not only have the vast majority of our World’s top wheat producers been affected, but also one of the main grain producing regions on the Planet, South America, has been hit by disasters too where an historic drought has crippled Argentina and Bolivia, and Brazil, that region’s largest Nation, has been hit with catastrophic floods that have killed nearly 400 people in the past few days alone.
Even the United States has been hit as a catastrophic winter has seen 49 of their 50 States covered by snow causing unprecedented damage to their crops in Florida due to freezing weather, and record setting rains destroying massive numbers of crops in their most important growing region of California.
And if you think that things couldn’t get any worse you couldn’t be more mistaken as South Korea (one of the most important meat exporters in Asia) has just this past week had to destroy millions of farm animals after an outbreak of the dreaded foot-and-mouth disease was discovered."
Shift in Commodity Price Indices (2006-2010) while watching the FAO Food Price Index
Is there anything a prudent watcher of the “end times” should plan to do? Just as Joseph did for the Egyptian people and thereby saved his own family, the Patriarch Jacob and the seventy members of their household including his brothers and their families. He stored up provisions of food for their future. We have the inclination of trusting government statistics, but expert advice us to beware. According to the United States government, they tell us that most of the nation’s of the world are still harvesting maybe not bumper crops but crops within 1-3% of last year’s harvest. Yet, when we see these statistics, do wesuspect world famine?
- Sugar prices have silently doubled in price since June, 2010.
- Barley storage is down 35% over the year.
- Corn storage statistics are down by 12%.
- Wheat prices have increased 47% in a year.
- Corn prices have increased 50% over the past year.
- Soybean prices are 34% higher than last year.
- Then we are hearing that the United Nations is forecasting future food price increase by an additional 40 % this year.
Would it not be reasonable to ask, what is going on? Then let us look at what is happening to the food producing regions within the United States alone by looking at the USDA’s Disaster Designation areas for 2010. They include:
- The entire states of Alabama and Arkansas.
- 58 out of 77 counties in Oklahoma.
- Plus 70 of 83 counties in Michigan, and
- 151 out of 159 counties in Georgia, and we will not forget,
- 63 out of 100 counties in North Carolina.
Chinese Industrial Worker’s Sweat Shop but Desiring more Affluent Lifestyles
Now let us now include the burgeoning populations of China, India, Japan and Thailand with their astronomical increase in demands for food supplies. Do they not now desire a more affluent status for becoming the industrial and service labor forces for the entire world? Of course we must not forget in increasing use of corn for ethanol with the increasing price of oil and gas. Then let us look at the statistics on American farmers that depict the decreasing production of crops that are not financially remunerative, such as the growing and harvesting of wheat. Here again are a few statistics.
- In 1981, the United States had 88 million acres planted in wheat.
- By 2010, the reduction of wheat acreage planted went down to 47.6 million acres.
- At the same time, the wheat production yield was down by 25%.
- The American reserve wheat stores are today down 10%.
- Now let us travel around the globe to one of the largest wheat producers in the world; Australia. There mega-floods have shut down harvesting, replanting, and also have shut down the key grain ports on that continent.
- Conclusion: Higher prices, tight grain supplies, decreasing national reserves in a collapsing economy with more people unemployed and living by sustenance day to day. This is a perfect world environment for the prophetic time of the end.
According to Market Oracle, and confirmed by Market Skeptic’s Eric DeCarbonnel, the United States Department of Agriculture estimates the production of food to be artificially high in order to modify the supply and demand figures to keep them at balance. The food prices are kept artificially low by using the inflated number in production. In their statistical accounting, in order for a certain county to be included as an USDA Disaster Designation Area, that county must have a 30% loss in at least one crop in order to be declared a disaster area.
As the world comes face to face with these shaking global realities, we also witness the Global Leadership scrambling to gain control of their countries if and when catastrophes begin and food riots and uprising cascade across their country’s landscape. This fact was most noticeable when the French Jewish President Nicolas Sarkozy, now not only as the head of the Global G8 countries but also the G-20 group of developing nations.
On January 10, 2010, President Sarkozy traveled to Washington for talks with US President Barack Obama. Bringing with him their “agreement in principal”, they were expected to discuss creating a joint-US-European military arms force to jointly defend their countries against global and American-European uprisings when the reality of global food shortage will become starkly apparent.
So concerned had they become, one of their first resolutions, in the name of counter-terrorism, was to put on the upcoming G8 agenda the introduction of Internet regulation when they meet at the G8 Summit in Deauville, France in May, 2011.
A pet international control issue especially with Sarkozy and his secretary of state for trade representative, Frédéric Lefebvre, who both are vehement opponents of unregulated internet, whom Lefebvre is quoted to have said; “the Internet is a nest of psychopaths, rapists and thieves.”
Only three months earlier, Obama and Sarkozy both met in private at the Vatican in Rome where Sarkozy affirmed to Obama that regulating the internet was a “moral imperative” that were needed to “correct the excesses and abuses that arise from the total absence of rules.” In their discussions, it was proposed that also they create and share an “intellectual property police force”.
Sarkozy had already faced an earlier defeat when France’s highest court ruled against it and in its place proposed that France sign into law the “Hadopi” regulations that illegal downloading of illicit media, file sharing, music, and films would be given two warnings before they were disconnected from the internet.
Linking all together, Sarkozy argues that imbalances and swings in global currencies and excessive volatility in commodity prices will recreate a food crisis like was done in 2008, when in over a dozen nations around the world, food riots broke out and many were injured. No doubt we are witnessing the international formation of a new unified world governance in which “Peace, Peace!” means “Peace with great security.”
