Rosh Hashanah and the Jewish knowledge of Time – Part One
The Jewish month of Elul heralds the beginning of the Jewish Fall Festival Season beginning with the Jewish New Years on Rosh Hashanah. On this day on the 1st day of Tishri, 5,773 years ago, the “Creation of our Earth” began culminating in the highest of creation; the “Creation of Man”.
Well established since the 6th century BCE, Rosh Hashanah and the "Days of Awe" were first mentioned in the Jewish Mishnah around 200 CE. According to Jewish tradition, HaShem, the G-d of Creation judges all creatures during the 10 Days of Awe between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, making the divine decision on whether they will live or die during the next 12 months.
According to Jewish Torah law, it teaches that on Yom Kippur, HaShem, the One G-d of Creation will inscribe the names of the righteous in the “Book of Life” on Rosh Hashanah and those destined to die in the upcoming years will still have ten days to perform “teshuvah” or repentance during the “10 Days of Awe”. This is the time in which they will reflect upon the past year and surround their lives with prayer; reflecting upon their past mistakes, make amends to others and performing good deeds.
Here is the festival season of a national people that have continued to exist over the longest periods of time from the era of great antiquities than any other peoples on earth. Even in the days of the Roman Empire, the Jewish people were respected for the antiquity of their religious faith. In those years of antiquity, the progression of time was first calculated either by the beginning of an auspicious moment of time by an epic event or by the king or ruler and the days and years of his rule.
The passages within the TaNaKh report many of these events that were not only included in the ancient Hebrew calendar of events, called the “chronicles”, but in reference to the tracking of time by the imperial forces that prevailed over them. As we read through the chronologies and prophetic oracles of the Jewish Prime Minister of Babylon and Persia, the Prophet Daniel tied many of his prophetic visions in the Book of Daniel with the historical time counted by the reign of the kings of Babylon or Persia with which he was serving.
We witness a similar “counting of years” in the Roman Christian traditions when their monks in writing the history of the world tried to manipulate and massage the passage of ancient times so as to predict the prophecies from the ancient Jewish and Israelite prophets as they affected the future of the Jewish people. Instead they twisted the prophecies to mark the future reign of their “spiritual king”.
There is no doubt that with the domination of the Roman Empire and their historical descendants, the Roman Christian Church and her daughters the Protestants Christians, the influence of Rome and Roman Christianity has dominated the historical era of mankind for the last 2000 years. These facts are imprinted in historical time with the dating of time using BC as meaning “Before Christ” and after that date, AD as “After (Christ’s) Death.
As we know it today, they failed on both of these designations, for the birth of the one called Jesus the Nazarene (Yahshua HaNotzri) was off by as much as a Sabbatical Week of (Seven Years), and the date of his death, about three decades later, is still elusive to biblical scholars two millenniums later.
So Rosh Hashanah now begins with the “blowing of the shofar” in preparation for the Ten Days of Awe in which the penitent Jews and the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel seek forgiveness of anything in their lives that has affected the horizontal relationship between themselves and the people in which they associate and their vertical relationship with the Divine.
These days will someday soon be reflected in Cosmic Time when on the last Rosh Hashanah, the 7th Shofar will make a great blast just before the Maschiah ben Dovid (Messiah son of David) comes, and we will at that time be, with great expectation crying out, “Maschiah soon come and help us enter the ‘World to Come’”
As the Lost Ten Tribes of Israel await that day, yearly we will again reevaluate how the progression of times has affected the observant Jew, whose ancestors have walked and trod with every imperial world power that has affected the “Land” which HaShem, the G-d of Israel calls His own. Then as the “Lost Sheep of the House of Israel, we will proclaim, “Thank you Brother Judah, for staying observant and in covenant with the G-d of Israel, so that the Maschiah will bring the “Kingdom of G-d” and “Gan Eden” to Planet Earth and restore that life again that Adam and Chavah lost so many millenniums ago.

The legitimacy of the Jewish people and their relevancy to give us a vignette of history from the Egyptian Empire in the days of Jacob and Joseph to today is summed up in one thought; they were there when every empire of the world made their bid to be the rulers of the world. They all disappeared and today once again are reasserting their rights to rule the global “New World Order”. Yet, the G-d of Israel has proclaimed that in the end, they all will disappear and Messianic Age of the Messiah in Jerusalem will rule the whole world.
As we have seen the world is quickly polarizing between “The Jews” and the “Nations of the World”. In the end that will be only two choices; we are either for the Hebrew Israelites; both now part of the Jews of the house of Judah and the Lost Israelites of the house of Israel or we will be against them. This comes to one sobering conclusion, if you are a descendant of the Lost Ten Tribes of the House of Israel and you despise your brothers, the Jews, you will be left cohabitating with peoples who will have a genetic hatred to you even though you think you want to be a part of them.
