"Then Yahshua (Jesus) came with them to a place called Gat Shemem and said to the disciples…Stay here and watch with Me.” Matthew 26:36,38.
We can never fully comprehend the agony of the Jesus the Messiah (Yahshua HaMaschiah) in Gat Shemem as He and his disciples rested and prayed in the Garden District . Yet, at the least, we don’t have to misunderstand it. It is the agony of the G-d of Israel who along with His “Image” manifested as YHVH’s Messiah seen on earth as the image of man, as One, came face to face with cosmic sin. We cannot comprehend “Gethsemane” in our personal experience. Neither can we comprehend the Creator as the Messiah. Gethsemane and the “Tree” at the place we call “Calvary” all stand for something unique; for the Messiah is the “Door” into the Sheepfold for through Him, we have a Gateway into a new Life for us.
It was not the death on the “tree” that Jesus feared in Garden at Gat Shemem, for He proclaimed most emphatically that He came to Planet Earth with the purpose of dying. There in the garden, His concern was that He might not get through this struggle as the Son of Man. He was confident that He would get through this epic struggle as the Son of G-d, for it was here that HaSatan (Satan) could not touch Him. It was HaSatan’s assault that our Messiah would come through this experience for us on His own as the Son of Man, an isolated Figure without His divine nature. If Yahshua HaNotzri (Jesus the Nazarene) had done that, He could not have been our Savior.
Hebrews 9:11-15 (parts) – “But the Messiah came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is , not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once and for all, having obtained eternal redemption…how much more shall the blood of the Messiah, who was the manifestation of YHVH G-d who through the Eternal Spirit the Spirit Manifestation of YHVH G-d offered Himself without spot to back to YHVH G-d…and for this reason He is the Mediator of the New Covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgression under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
As we read the gospel testimony of Yahshua’s (Jesus’) agony in Gat Shemem we begin to comprehend His earlier wilderness temptation with HaSatan (Satan), “The devil…departed from Him until an opportune time.” (Luke 4:13). In Gethsemane, HaSatan came back and was again overthrown. Satan's final onslaught against our Lord as the Son of Man was in Gethsemane.
The agony in Gethsemane was the agony of a manifested Son of God fulfilling His destiny as the Savior of the world. The inter-dimensional veil was drawn aside to reveal all that it cost Him to make it possible for us to become sons of God. His agony was the basis for the simplicity of our salvation.
The “Cross of Christ” as He was hanging upon a tree, was a triumph for the Son of Man. It was not only a sign that Our Lord and Master had triumphed, but that He had triumphed to save the human race. Because of what the Son of Man went through, every human being has been provided with a way of access through the Messiah into the very presence of G-d.
